#charliesfight and my opinion as a SNP

When did it become bad to advocate?

When did it become more dangerous to want a better quality of life?

When did it become unacceptable to seek out a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th opinion on a medical circumstance?

When did the word "Parent" become a loose translation of:

"non-paid temporary caretaker of a small human of my genetic makeup; who is under the thumb of a nosy and overbearing government/medical facility; who has no say in the care of a small human being I was involved in the creation of; even up to trying to give them the best quality of life via medical treatment if the governing body deems said treatment might not work"

We as parents of medically fragile kids are under the microscope of hospitals whether in or out of the facility...one perceived misstep can mean:

  • removal of child

  • rights taken away

  • charges filed

  • emotional damage to patient, and the family!

How is what Charlie Gard's parents wanting to bring him to the states and attempt treatment a misstep?

Why when they are obviously advocating and financing the endeavor are they being criticized and rights stripped away?

Shouldn't this hospital and governing body be more concerned if they had wanted to end sweet Charlie's life too early? But this is not the case! and now that the decision has been taken away from them why on earth are they not able to bring him home, enjoy what time they have left, and be left in peace?

At what point did the rights of parents involving kids become optional when the child is being well taken care of and LOVED.

Our own medical journey over the last few years has not been rosey, and I wouldn't wish any part of it on my worst enemy. But as a mother I am appalled that this London hospital is taking events to this degree.I have no idea what they gain from barring Charlie's family the right to move him and seek help elsewhere, or what they gain in essentially holding hostage a minor. Isn't that illegal? Pretty certain the hospital didn't spontaneously give birth to this baby from the boiler room and so they should have no legal leg to stand on in any decision regarding his future other than getting paid for professional services rendered.

My heart breaks as I know the end of this boy's life is going to be nothing but a huge nightmare for these parents. Not that anyone has "good time" watching a child leave this world, but it shouldn't be like this. Peace and acceptance can happen in the midst of harsh circumstances, but this will bring nothing but hard feelings and an overwhelming sense that they had done something wrong in seeking something more for him...
